Remembrance Day events in Stamford, Bourne, the Deepings and Rutland

Communities will gather together at Remembrance Day events across the area on Sunday to remember those who fought for their country.

This year Remembrance Sunday falls on Remembrance Day, the day that is observed to recall the end of hostilities of the First World War at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918.

In Stamford the Annual Service of Remembrance and laying of wreaths will take place at the war memorial in Broad Street.

At 10.30am the parade, including the Stamford Brass Band, will assemble in Star Lane and St Paul’s Street, leaving at 10.50am to march along Broad Street to the war memorial.

At 11am a two minute silence will begin at the end of the Last Post being sounded.

Wreaths will then be laid by dignitaries, the military and youth and cadet groups.

A service will be led by the Rev Canon Dr Donald Gray.

The Bourne branch of the Royal British Legion will hold its Annual Service of Remembrance and Parade from 10.20am.

Members of the public wishing to join the parade should report to the parade marshal at the bus station on North Street by 10am.

Those who would like to lay their own private wreath as part of the Remembrance Service are asked to speak to the stewards at the entrance to the Memorial Gardens by 10.35am.

The parade will go through the town to the cenotaph in the Memorial Gardens. A service will commence at 10.45am, with a two minute silence being observed at 11am. A service will then take place in Bourne Abbey Church.

A service will also be held at Thurlby Methodist Church at 10.30am and St Mary’s Church in Morcott at 10.55am.

In Market Deeping a parade will leave the Co-op supermarket car park in Godsey Lane at 9.30am travelling along High Street to St Guthlac’s Church for a service at 10am.

In Oakham a parade will start at 2pm from Market Place, travelling to All Saints’ Church for a service and wreath laying.

In Ketton a service of remembrance and thanksgiving is set to be held at St Mary’s Church in Church Lane, at 4pm.

In Stretton a service of remembrance will be held at 10.50am at St Nicholas Church.

In Weldon a short service of remembrance and wreath laying will take place at the war memorial at 10.55am, followed by a service in St Mary’s Church with the Royal British Legion and the String of Pearl Choir in attendance.

In Bulwick a joint church service with villagers from Laxton will start at 10.50am. The offertory collection will be donated to The Royal British Legion.

Church services will also take place at St John the Baptist Church in Great Casterton from 10.30am, Harringworth at 10.45am, Cottesmore at 10.45am, St Andrew’s Church in Whissendine, at 10.45am and St Mary’s Church in Morcott at 10.55am. A short wreath-laying ceremony will take place at 9.45am in the church yard at Manton.

Remembrance Day services will also take place in Gretton at 11am at the Memorial at the entrance to Spanoe Airfield on the Harringworth to Laxton Road followed by laying of wreaths.

At 2.45pm a parade will leave Gretton recreation ground to 
St James’ Church for a service at 3pm.
