SKDC green bin scheme reminders emailed to residents hundreds of times

A computer glitch meant residents were sent reminders about their bins up to 300 times over the weekend.

A number of those who are signed up to the garden waste collection - or 'green bin' service - were left in no doubt that South Kesteven District Council was keen for them to renew after their inboxes were swamped by emails.

One resident from the Bourne area took to social media to report they had received more than 140 reminder emails, with others also reporting receiving more than 100.

A spokesman for South Kesteven District Council said: “We experienced an issue with our green waste service email system during the weekend, which resulted in some scheme members receiving up to 300 reminder messages from us.

“Staff acted quickly to halt the process and are working today to fix the issue, which affected only a small proportion - around 170 - of the 29,000 addresses we contact.

“We convey our sincere apologies for the inconvenience caused and customers should rest assured that work is ongoing to ensure this was a one-off.”

Residents can join or renew the garden waste scheme in March. More details are available here.
