Two new councillors have been selected for Rutland County Council following the by-elections in Whissendine and Oakham South West, that took place yesterday (October 16).

Richard Clifton who was standing as a Conservative candidate was elected to the Oakham South West ward, along with Samuel Asplin as a Liberal Democrat candidate who was elected to the Whissendine ward.

Richard won the Oakham South West ward vote by a clear win of 244 votes, and Samuel won the vote by 192 votes, with opposing candidate Jonathan Baker gaining a close 179 votes.

Both councillors will initially serve until the County Council elections in May 2015.
