A profic fundraiser is preparing for his next charity challenge to support the fight against dementia.

Richard Lomas-Brown will compete in Le Tour next month, taking on the first stage of this year’s Tour de France route from Leeds to Harrogate.

He will tackle the 190km route (118 miles) with a team of other cyclists who are raising money for the Alzheimer’s Society.

Richard, of Eastgate, Bourne, said: “I decided to take part in Le Tour for Alzheimer’s Society because this is probably the last opportunity I’ll have to ride a Tour stage in the UK while I’m still fit enough to do so.”

Richard, who works for Halifax, added: “The Alzheimer’s Society is my employer’s charity of the year so when I saw this fundraising event I thought I just had to do this one.

“I love cycling and I’m thrilled to be able to experience the first stage of the Tour De France route and ride where the professionals will have been.”

Richard has been training hard for the event for the last few months by riding every weekend and competing with Bourne Wheelers during the week.

He was also training at Bourne market yesterday to drum up more support for his fundraising challenge.

Richard said: “I’m hoping that by raising funds for the Alzheimer’s Society, more support can be provided for people with dementia.”

The charity’s latest figures show that one in three people aged over 65 will develop some form of dementia.

Chief executive of the Alzheimer’s Society, Jeremy Hughes, said: “We are delighted that Rich is giving his time to support us. As a charity we rely on the generosity of individuals like Rich to continue our vital work. I hope people will back his efforts so we can continue the fight against dementia.”
