High Sheriff of Rutland, Margaret Miles, to cycle to all 23 Rutland churches in aid of Rutland Historic Churches Preservation Trust

On Saturday, September 14, Margaret Miles, High Sheriff of Rutland, will be adding to her cycling achievements by cycling around the perimeter of Rutland and thereby visiting 23 Rutland churches.

In 2017 Margaret and her husband Robert visited all 42 Anglican cathedrals in England on their bikes, raising more than £8,000 for two charities that support disadvantaged or troubled children in the UK.

Now Margaret is High Sheriff her time is in short supply.

However she has generously agreed to spend the whole day on behalf of Rutland Historic Churches Preservation Trust, which raises money for church repairs in Rutland.

Every alternate year RHCPT holds a Ride and Stride event where riders (bicycles, horses, tricycles, charabangs, anything you can ride!) and walkers of all ages and abilities see how many churches they can visit in one day.

In 2017, the trust raised more than £21,000, with three riders visiting all 64 churches.

Money is raised via sponsorship of these energetic individuals, as well as via volunteers who man the churches and welcome the riders with refreshments and smiles.

Margaret and Robert will be visiting 23 churches, but not for long!

They will be stopping for approximately 15 minute breaks at Tinwell (9.25am), Barrowden (10.50am), Ridlington (1.20pm) and Langham (3pm), so why not go along and say hello?

Margaret would be particularly pleased to see any children and young people who may like to meet her... but she will be cycling quite fast, so you will need to keep up!

If you would like a full list of the churches Margaret is visiting, get in touch with the trust.

At the final stop in Clipsham, Margaret and Robert will be greeted by Dr Sarah Furness, Lord Lieutenant for Rutland – an ideal opportunity for a photo-shoot.They should be at Clipsham Church around 4.50pm.
