A new volunteer training centre at Rutland Water is taking shape.

Work is well underway on the building on the reservoir’s west shore.

Construction on the centre, which will provide a range of facilities for more than 350 volunteers, began in September. The main structure has now gone up and the roof is being laid.

The Leicestershire and Rutland Wildlife Trust, which is leading the project, has secured grants from the Heritage Lottery Fund and Anglian Water. But it is still on the looking for extra sponsorship to raise £170,000.

Director Simon Bentley has appealed to businesses to help out. He said: “We have long standing relationships with a number of local businesses but the new volunteer training centre is essential if we want to offer these opportunities to other companies.

“Once complete, the centre will enable us to support corporate social responsibility programmes or just offer fun, unusual days out for employee teams.”
