Rutland celebrates as Leicester City win the FA Cup for the first time

Rutland is celebrating tonight (Saturday, May 15) after Leicester City won the FA Cup for the first time.

The nail-biting game against Chelsea ended 1-0 after a stunning goal by Youri Tielemans in the 63rd minute and excellent saves by goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel.

The game could have ended differently though after a goal from Chelsea that would have seen them tie was ruled out by VAR for being offside.

About 6,000 Leicester City fans were at Wembley to see the game and Rutland was represented with a flag bearing the word 'Oakham' seen in the crowds on the BBC's television coverage.

After the game, Rutland MP Alicia Kearns (Con) was among those to offer her congratulations.

It is Leicester City's first FA Cup final since 1969. The team also defied all the odds when they won the Premier League in 2016.
