Councillors will consider changing the cost of marriages in Rutland.

The county council has been carrying out a review its registration fees after an investigation by the Local Government Ombudsman.

The investigation found that the council had failed to calculate the real costs of conducting a marriage at a venue other than a church or registry office for several years, although the current cost was neither excessive nor exploitative.

Director for resources at Rutland County Council Debbie Mogg said: “Rutland County Council has completed its review of registration service fees in the county, in accordance with directions received from the Local Government Ombudsman.

“This report will be presented to cabinet in the new year and its findings made available to the public.”
