Rutland County Council warn about scam

Rutland County Council has warned people to be vigilant of bogus council officials asking for bank details.

The county council said it had taken over 100 calls from concerned people who had been contacted by fraudsters claiming to be from the authority and saying they are due a council tax rebate and need their bank details.

The council added it would never contact people out of the blue.

Officials are urging anyone who gets these calls to not give out any information, hang up immediately and contact the Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040 or visit actionfraud.police.uk.
