Rutland crafter’s blanket will raise funds for Friends of the Elderly

A keen crafter from Rutland has enlisted the help of the crochet community to produce a blanket in aid of national charity Friends of the Elderly.

Sally Hollowell works for Rutland Garden Centre, part of the Home and Garden Group, which selected Friends of the Elderly as its nominated charity earlier this year. She was asked to come up with a way of raising money for the charity and as an enthusiastic crafter, crocheting a blanket to raffle off seemed like the perfect way to get the community involved whilst raising vital funds for older people.

Sally put out a request on Facebook for people to help her crochet squares for the blanket and was overwhelmed by the response. She said: “People posted squares from as far away as Spain, including a very generous donation of 80 squares. A massive thank you to everyone who contributed.”

The finished blanket can be won by making a donation of as little as £2 at: www.justgiving.com/fundraising/Sally-Hollowell. The deadline for entry is August 31.
