More than 50 former pupils and teachers of Rutland High School reunited at Barnsdale Hall Hotel at the weekend to mark the school’s 50th anniversary.

The momentous occasion held on Saturday, included the unveiling of a special plaque by Sylvia Leach (formerly Demain), which is to be displayed next to an oak tree which the former pupils planted at Old Hall, Middle Hambleton.

The school reunion attracted 35 founder pupils, including two who came from Canada and one from France. A total of 15 former teachers also attended the event - allowing for a great opportunity to reminisce on those former school days.

There was a presentation held alongside the afternoon’s lunch, which featured photos of each of the girls and some of the teachers - detailing what they had been up to in the past forty years.

In the evening 23 girls remained for dinner at the hotel and the following day, former French teacher, Linda Hamilton (formerly Irving) took everyone on a tour of Barnsdale Gardens.

Former pupil, Pam Riley (formerly Swain) helped to organise the reunion, she said: “It was an amazing event and lovely to see everyone. It meant a lot to us all to be able to reunite again.

“I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who helped to make it such a memorable occasion for all involved.”
