A fundraising group has ended 2013 on a high after another successful year.

Rutland Lions has thanked all the individuals, business and groups who have helped members with activities and initiatives throughout the year to raise more than £15,000.

The Christmas food collection was completed with 300 food parcels delivered at the beginning of December and the Christmas Tableau finished on Christmas Eve, with Santa visiting routes in Oakham and Uppingham.

Donations in excess of £4,000 have been made to purchase, or toward purchases of defibrillators for Rutland First Responders and Community Heartbeat Trust, while junior sports clubs have again benefitted to the tune of nearly £2,500.

Other significant beneficiaries have been the dementia group, Rutland Reminders, the three Rutland secondary colleges where Rutland Lions sponsor prizes at the annual awards presentations, East Midlands Immediate Care Scheme, and a number of national and international appeals including the Typhoon Haiyan Appeal.
