Rutland man, 80, dies in car crash near Stretton

AN 80-year-old man has died after being involved in a car crash.

James McFarlane, from Barrow, was driving a silver Peugeot 206 when it collided with a blue Ford Galaxy in Stretton Road, near the A1 slip road, at about 5.15pm on Friday.

Mr McFarlane was taken to Peterborough City Hospital but died yesterday (Sunday). A passenger in the Peugeot was treated for minor injuries at the hospital and the driver of the Ford was not injured.

Det Con Adam Sparrow said: “The Peugeot was travelling along the slip road from the A1 towards Stretton Road and the Ford was travelling along Stretton Road towards Oakham when the collision occurred.

“We would urge anyone who witnessed the collision or saw either vehicle beforehand, in particular the Peugeot travelling north along the A1 before the collision, to please contact police.”
