Rutland motorcyclist dies in four-vehicle collision near Melton

A 66-YEAR-OLD motorcyclist has died after a collision with three other vehicles.

Clifford Marston, 66, from Rutland, was riding his BMW bike along the A6006 Asfordby Road near Melton at about 11.10am on Friday when he was involved in a crash with a green Ford Focus Estate, a green Ford Transit van and silver Honda Civic.

Mr Marston died at the scene while the female driver of the Honda was taken to Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham, where she remains in a stable condition.

A passenger in the Transit was taken to Leicester Royal Infirmary with minor injuries and discharged after being treated.

No-one else was hurt in the crash.

A 32-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident and released pending further enquiries.

Det Con Seamus Burns, investigating the crash, said: “The Focus, the motorcycle and the Honda were travelling towards Melton and the Transit van was travelling in the opposite direction towards Asfordby at the time of the collision.

“We would urge anyone who witnessed the collision or saw any of the vehicles beforehand to please contact police immediately.”
