Scores of pupils from across Rutland and the wider area visited Uppingham Community College for some practical experiments during a science fair.

Led by the Institute of Physics, the Stimulating Physics Network and The Ogden Trust, the fair included an extreme physics roadshow with included, giant smoke rings, huge bubbles, liquid nitrogen, plasma balls and a fire tornado. One lucky pupil even got to fire a rocket at their teacher!

More than 20 teams of pupils competed. They had to complete five experiments and two investigations in just over two hours. The activities were varied and the sports hall was a hive of activity with pupils carrying out the practical experiments or trying to answer the challenging questions.

With all seven activities completed they then had to produce a poster to extend the theme of their favourite physics experiment. The top four groups then had to put together a presentation for the remaining pupils.
