Residents are being asked to help shape future public transport services in Rutland by sharing their views on the County’s latest Local Transport Plan.

Over the past year, Rutland County Council has been developing an updated strategy to support the delivery of local transport services up to the year 2036.

The strategy, called ‘Moving Rutland Forward’, aims to improve transport and highway provisions in the County in order to:

-Support sustainable population and business growth

-Meet the needs of Rutland’s most vulnerable residents

-Support a high level of health and well-being, including combating rural isolation

Among the proposals are a Draft Passenger Transport Strategy which sets out goals for the creation of an efficient of passenger transport system that connects residents and visitors to key services and facilities.

Also included is a Draft Rights of Way Improvement Plan, which outlines how the Council intends to manage Rutland's extensive network of public rights of way.

Coun Lucy Stevenson, portfolio holder for highways and transport, said: "Local transport services are critical in allowing people to travel for work, education, healthcare and leisure.

"Our latest Local Transport Plan has been developed using public feedback from Rutland’s 2016 transport survey and sets out draft plans for the County’s various transport services right up until 2036.

"The plan explains how we hope to address some of the challenges we’re currently facing and support the big changes that are likely to take place in Rutland in future years.

"Understandably, given the importance of local transport services, we want as many people as possible to read and give their considered opinions on the draft plans we’ve published.

"We need to have a clear picture of how things are now so that we can make the right changes and improvements in future.

"Following this, priorities will have to be set and money used wisely to make sure we meet as many needs as we can.”

Public consultation on Rutland’s latest Draft Local Transport Plan is now underway and runs until 11 January 2019.
