Instagram data from Lakelovers shows Rutland in top five safe UK staycations list

More news, no ads

Rutland has been voted number four in the top destinations for socially-distanced staycations in the UK.

Self-catering accommodation experts Lakelovers revealed the 'top eight safe holiday spots in the UK' according to Instagram data.

It is no surprise to people who live in the area that Rutland is high on the list, coming in fourth with 195,000 posts, due to its tranquil settings and historical locations.

One of Rutland’s hidden histories is the Stoke Dry church being the place Guy Fawkes and his co-conspirators drew up plans to blow up Parliament.

Since regaining independence from Leicestershire in 1997, the county has lived up to its Latin motto ‘multum in parvo’ roughly meaning ‘a great deal in a small space’ and many believe this represents Rutland perfectly.

A significant tourist location is Rutland Water which is home to the waterside Normanton church, a zoo, a watersports centre and a summer beach.

The demand for holidays on home soil has risen in 2020, with the requirement to find a safe holiday spot.

Lakelovers' data shows that a quarter of people say they are looking to holiday within the UK until a Covid-19 vaccine is found and with 18 per cent saying they prefer a 'staycation' holiday regardless.

Instagram is helping tourists decide which beauty spot they should visit next.

According to Lakelovers the top eight locations on the social media app are:

  • Keswick, Cumbria with 355,000 posts
  • Sevenoaks, Kent with 217,000 posts
  • Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk with 203k posts
  • Rutland with 195,000 posts
  • Dunbar, Scotland with 104,000 posts
  • Isle of Harris, Scotland with 70,000 posts
  • Motherwell, Scotland with 61,000 posts
  • Holkham, Norfolk with 49,000 posts
