Rutland volunteers are recognised
Voluntary Action Rutland (VAR) held its 25th annual meeting and volunteer award ceremony in the Gover Centre at the Rutland Community Hub on Lands’ End Way, Oakham, earlier this month.
As well as volunteers and staff working for VAR and for other organisations in Rutland, those present included Dr Sarah Furness, the Lord Lieutenant of the county; Sue Jarron, High Sheriff; Margaret Miles, High Sheriff-in-nomination; and VAR’s president, Air Commodore Peter Gover, asdguests of honour.
Following an introductory speech by VAR’s chairman, Carsten Pigott, the High Sheriff presented certificates of appreciation to VAR volunteers and to staff representing other organisations that were providing valuable support to the community.
The formal proceedings were rounded off with a short talk by Dr Furness on the effectiveness and vibrancy of the many voluntary and community groups active throughout
