An engineer ended up in court after going to the aid of a friend who was set upon by a group of men in a Stamford Street.

Nicholas Mark Ferreira, 26, of St Eabba’s Close, Ryhall, pleaded guilty to using threatening words or behaviour in Red Lion Street on June 26.

Prosecuting, Daniel Paulson said Ferreira’s friend was attacked in the street by a group of men at 1am. Ferreira intervened and was hit several times. He then punched one of the men. His victim did not make a statement but Ferriera admitted it was him when CCTV evidence was presented to him.

Defending, Lisa Elkington said Ferreira fully cooperated with the police. Ferreira said he was “upset and embarrassed” that he had been assaulted and had suffered a cut lip.

Grantham magistrates fined Ferriera £400 and ordered him to pay a victim surcharge of £40, costs of £85 and a court charge of £150.
