Confirmed coronavirus cases at Oakham School
A school has confirmed a number of coronavirus cases amongst their sixth form pupils.
There is a total of six confirmed Covid-19 cases - recorded on Saturday (October 17) - at Oakham School affecting pupils in years 12 and 13. The first case was confirmed on October 6.
Sarah Gomm, deputy head pastoral, said: "Following each confirmed case the school quickly engaged its rigorous internal track and trace system, as well using our own fast-track testing procedures.
"This has enabled us to quickly identify and self-isolate pupils who had come into close contact with any of the confirmed cases, mitigating the further spread of the virus."
Oakham School is now on half term for two weeks and when pupils return all of the safety measures will continue, as well as being updated and adapted if needed.
Mrs Gomm said: "As happened at the start of term in September, there will be the continued strict enforcement of all quarantine measures for our boarders returning to the UK.
"There will also be 'safe to return' procedures for pupils and staff which will see the continuation of daily temperature testing.
"Our timetable remains adapted to reduce and monitor contact points amongst pupils and staff, and our extensive prevention activities will continue - including the wearing of face masks and the proactive encouragement of consistent hand washing via the 170 plus sanitising stations around campus."
