Schools across the area are open as normal following the disruption caused by snowfall yesterday (Monday).

Wittering recorded the sixth heaviest snowfall in the UK at 9am yesterday (Monday) with 16cm.

Gritters have been working throughout the night but motorists are being urged to take care particularly on back and side roads where it is icy.

In Edith Weston and North Luffenham, the roads have been gritted by Army personnel from St George’s Barracks.

Glaston Road, known locally as Gashouse Hill, in Uppingham, remains closed as does Ashwell gatehouse, the small unmanned level crossing on Langham Lane Ashwell, has been closed due to damage to the barriers after a vehicle failed to stop at the level crossing gates. This is not the main crossing between Ashwell and Whissendine by the signal box.
