An Oakham town councillor has stepped down.

David Blanksby, who represented the Oakham North West ward, handed in his resignation from the authority last month.

Mr Blanksby, who is vice chairman of the Oakham in Bloom committee, was co-opted onto the council in February and kept his seat in May’s uncontested election.

Deputy mayor Adam Lowe said: “I can confirm that the chairman of the council has acknowledged the resignation of David Blanksby, thanking David for all the invaluable time his has given to the council. David will continue to contribute to local community through his involvement with Oakham In Bloom.”

If, by September 22, a request for an election to fill the vacancy is made in writing by 10 electors in the Oakham North West Ward then an election will be held no later than November 25. Such a request should be sent to:

The Returning Officer

Rutland County Council

LE15 6HP

If no request for an election is made then the vacancy will be filled by co-option.
