Schools and nurseries around the region are celebrating literature during World Book Day.

The global event is taking place today (Thursday) for the 18th year. Children of all ages are encouraged to appreciate reading as loudly and happily as they can.

According to the World Book Day website, the main aim of the event in the UK and Ireland is to encourage children to explore the pleasures of books and reading by providing them with the opportunity to have a book of their own.

Schools have been send backs of book tokens and resource packs full of ideas and activities.

Are you taking part? Send your pictures to the newsdesk and they could feature in next week’s paper.
