Senior citizens enjoy a festive lunch at RAF Wittering

Senior citizens from Stamford and surrounding villages made their way to Royal Air Force Wittering for their annual Christmas lunch.

The event is an opportunity for the base to say thank you to many of its long-standing neighbours for decades of unstinting support.

Festivities took place in the Warrant Officers’ and Sergeant’s Mess and began with a joyful selection of Christmas carols and songs, enthusiastically performed by children from Wittering Primary School.

RAF Wittering’s Chief Clerk, Flight Sergeant Ian Ashman, who organised the Christmas lunch, said: “It’s actually a very satisfying job; the end result, seeing the guests enjoy themselves, makes it all the more worthwhile.”

RAF veteran Neil Exton was among the guests. Mr Exton served for 38 years in the Royal Air Force, three of which were at RAF Wittering. He said: “I’m grateful for what everyone has done today, having a lovely time and it’s good to be back.”

RAF Wittering’s chefs crafted a delicious menu, which included pate and Melba toast, roast turkey, and Christmas pudding.
