Sewer blocked in Barnack and Bainton

A high volume of 'unflushable' items put down toilets caused a sewer to block over the bank holiday weekend.

Residents in the Barnack and Bainton area reported foul water on the main road which was being sprayed onto people's properties by passing traffic.

An Anglian Water spokesman said: “Our teams were called out this weekend to clear a sewer blockage on the B1143, which obstructed the flow of the network and caused some localised flooding.

"Our teams attended quickly and successfully removed the blockage, completing a thorough clean-up of the area after discovering a high volume of unflushables and fat, oils and greases that had been wrongfully disposed of within the network.

“We would like to remind customers to help us keep the sewer network clear by only flushing the 'three Ps' – pee, poo and (toilet) paper.”
