The event is organised by the Rotary Club of Stamford Burghley and more than 50 teams joined in to help raise funds for their own charities.

Press officer for the club Jon Whowell said: “It’s too early to say how much money has been raised but it will add to the £85,000 the Fun Run has raised over the last six years.

“We would like to thank everyone who helped and those that took part and our sponsors, especially Anne Corder Recruitment who provided hot chocolate, mulled wine and mince pies for our Santas.”

He thanked Wildcats Theatre School, which stepped in to provide the warm-up at the last minute.

Jon added: “All in all a great event in a great setting supporting some great causes – here’s to next year’s Fun Run and a very happy Christmas from all the members of Burghley Rotary.”

Oliver’s Little Elves, which had 15 members, was one of the teams taking part. The team was running in memory of Oliver Scholes, who died of a rare blood disorder in June aged two.

His family has pledged to raise £10,000 for the Histiocytosis Research Trust in his memory to help fund research into the condition which took his life.

The Santas, who included Oliver’s six-month-old brother Toby, two-year-old cousin Millie Scholes, and best friend Maisie Staniland, three, raised more than £1,600.

Oliver’s dad Paul said: “It was a great day and we are amazed by how much support we have had from people, including some who never even met Oliver.”

His mum Andrea added: “Olly would have loved seeing all the Santas running around so it was a great way to start our fundraising.

“We’re grateful to all of our friends and family who took part in the run and to everyone who has sponsored us.”
