A social worker from Lincolnshire County Council has received national recognition for his support of vulnerable children and young people.
Stephen Field was named runner-up in the Children’s Social Worker of the Year category at the prestigious Social Worker of the Year Awards, held in London.
Stephen works in a frontline child protection team and supports children who are in local authority care, along with managing child protection cases.
At the awards, the judges praised Stephen for his communication skills, not just with the children but their families too, and his ability to put children’s needs first without alienating family members.
Speaking just after he collected his award, Stephen said: “It’s absolutely fantastic to win this award. I work with some amazing people, not just in social work but across all the sectors of education, health and the voluntary sector.
“It’s amazing to think that the work I do with children and young people is being recognised in this way.”
Javed Khan, chief executive of award sponsor, Barnardo’s, said: “I was delighted to present Stephen with the Silver Children’s Social Worker of the Year Award. He was an outstanding candidate and impressed the judges with his ability to engage well with both children and their families. He is a credit to the profession.”
