South Kesteven has joined thousands of people across the globe to ‘Fly a Flag for the Commonwealth’.

A special flag was raised today (Monday) outside South Kesteven District Council’s civic entrance on St Peter’s Hill in Grantham by councillors and members of the public to acknowledge the Commonwealth, one of over 850 ceremonies across the world.

They joined those from across the UK Channel Islands, Isle of Man, UK Overseas Territories and Commonwealth countries in the ceremony led by council chairman Councillor Ray Wootten.

Its aim is a collective public expression of commitment to the Commonwealth, enabling participants to show appreciation for the values the Commonwealth upholds, and the opportunities offered for friendship and cooperation with fellow Commonwealth young and old citizens around the world.
