South Kesteven District Council is encouraging more residents to get composting to improve their carbon footprints.

Home composting is an easy and effective way of recycling some of the daily waste we produce, while providing significant benefits for our gardens.

It also reduces waste sent to energy from waste sites, is simple to do and once you get started, you will be surprised at just how much compostable waste can be recycled.

It’s ideal for grass clippings, flowers, leaves, vegetable waste and almost any plant based material, some of which cannot be left in green bins.

The process keeps material out of the waste stream and also generates an excellent product to further enhance soil and gardens.

SKDC’s business manager for streetcare services Keith Rowe said: “Home composting organic waste helps to significantly reduce carbon emissions and can also be used as an effective and sustainable waste management method.”

SKDC will provide details of affordable compost bin manufacturers. Visit www.southkesteven.gov.uk.
