A MAN is in intensive care after falling off a stepladder.
The 52-year-old from South Luffenham was injured at about 7pm last night (Monday).
Paramedics were called but while they were waiting for an ambulance the man’s condition deteriorated so the Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance was called.
Upon arrival the doctor on board the helicopter put the man into a medically-induced coma in order to prevent any further deterioration of his condition.
He was then flown to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire, where he remains in intensive care following surgery.
A spokesperson for the air ambulance said: “One of the advantages of routinely carrying a doctor on board is that we can carry out advanced medical procedures such as this one, improving the patient’s chances of survival and also stabilising them for the helicopter journey.”
