YOUNGSTERS got active for a good cause at South Witham Primary School.

The school, in Water Lane, South Witham, held a sponsored “Move It” event, in which the pupils were required to keep moving while playing games for a whole afternoon.

The event has so far raised more than £600 for the Henry van Straubaneezee Fund, a charity which aims to lift Ugandan children out of poverty through education.

Dressed in the Ugandan colours of red, black and yellow, the pupils ran, skipped and hopped around the village playing field, and played rounders, netball and a number of other sports throughout the afternoon.

They were also joined by junior rowing champion George Mitchell, who was on hand to coach children on the rowing machine.

The school’s senior administrator Elaine Bacon said: “It was a fabulous day of fun and we’ve raised a lot for a good cause.”
