VOLUNTEERS welcomed a special guest to their community centre last week.
Deepings Community Centre welcomed the chief executive of the National Council for Voluntary Organisations, Sir Stuart Etherington, on Thursay last week.
Sir Stuart asked to visit the centre, in Douglas Road, after learning it was run by a team of 27-volunteers without a salaried manager.
He learned how the centre was run along with future challenges it faces with Government plans to increase the retirement age.
During the day Sir Stuart met a number of voluntary organisations from Lincolnshire and the Deepings before enjoying lunch.
In the afternoon, he was entertained by members of the Stamford, Bourne and the Deepings Alzheimer’s group’s musical session.
Chairman of the centre’s trustees Cathy Pridgeon said: “It was a great day for him and a great day for everyone.”
