THE stormy weather of the weekend could not dampen the spirits of horticulturists at a produce show in Empingham on Sunday.
The event organised by the Empingham Garden Club attracted a wide range of entries and included a popular scarecrow competition.
Show chairman David Hodson said: “It was a good community event and lots of locals called in and we even had some visitors from further afield.
“We had about 300 entries in the show, which was a little down on last year but we attribute that to the weather and the downpour the day before the show which might have wiped out some of the exhibitions.”
The best in show exhibition, voted for by the public, was won by Dorothy Sharman for her vibrant butterfly and flower design wall hanging. The Royal Horticultural Society’s Banksian medal for most points in the horticultural classes was won by Alan Lambert, who also claimed the Challenge Cup.
