SUPERMARKET staff got their running shoes on to raise money for a cancer charity.
Staff at Tesco in High Street, Stamford, took turns to run on treadmills outside the store on Saturday.
Eleven workers ran 27.2 miles between them between 9am and 2.30pm. Members of the public were clearly impressed by their efforts and donated a total of £362, which will be given to Tesco’s charity of the year, Cancer Research UK.
Team leader in the store’s fresh section, Emma Ward, organised the event. She said: “We did really well although I am still tired, my legs are killing me.
“Everyone got involved. Even if they couldn’t run they held out buckets for people to donate in.”
The store was one of 15 Tesco branches raising funds on the day. Between them staff ran 408 miles, which was the total length of the Olympic Torch Relay.
