Stamford care home joins in Royal wedding celebrations
A Stamford care home for the elderly joined in the Royal wedding celebrations on Saturday when it threw a party for residents and their families.
Priory Court Care Home in Priory Road Stamford showed the wedding of Prince Harry to Meghan Markle on a big screen in the dining room.
The care home's Helen Travis said around 50 residents and family members had watched.
"We needed to use the cinema room as well for people to watch because we were short on space in the dining room" she said.
"Everyone got dressed up and it was just such a festive occasion."
Helen residents who were bed bound had watched the ceremony in their rooms.
"We gathered everyone in the dining room at 11am and had a projector which showed the wedding on a big screen," she said.
"We served a celebratory cherry and everyone had a lovely buffet which was prepared from by kitchen.
"One of our carers, Marie, made us a cake while we had decorations put up and also had two Union Jack flags made with the couple on them."
She said the wedding service and celebrations had gone down well with the residents.
"One of our residents is 101 years old and she watched with us and thoroughly enjoyed it.
"Everyone absolutely loved the day and are very supportive of the Royal couple," said Helen.
"It was so nice we could celebrate their wedding here with our residents."
