Stamford care home supporting Dementia Action Week

The Order of St John Care Trust's Whitefriars Care Home in Stamford is taking part in Dementia Action Week by holding a series of events for residents.

The action begins with a residents and families bake off on Tuesday, followed by a coffee morning on Wednesday between 10.30am and 11am. There will then be a karaoke event in the afternoon.

Order of St John Care Trust Admiral nurse Angie Williams said: "As an organisation, we celebrate Dementia Action Week as it is so important to try and breakdown the barriers and stigma associated with both dementia and care homes. Families and people from local communities are invited to join our home for national dementia awareness and life story events."

The home is encouraging the community to sign up to the Alzheimer's Society's Dementia Friends scheme, a programme designed to encourage others to learn a little bit about dementia, and transform the way the nation thinks, acts and talks about the condition.

Head of volunteering, Kit Lendon, said: "Dementia Friends is a fantastic initiative which we offer all out volunteers so they undertstand what it's like to live with dementia.

"Spreading the word is vital to creating dementia friendly communities, so I'm hoping the local community will be keen to come along and find out more."
