Stamford church members welcome new Bishop of Lincoln

A NEW bishop was welcomed into his role by members of a church.

Members of Christchurch in Stamford congratulated the new Bishop of Lincoln, The Ven Christopher Lowson, during a visit on April 14.

The Ven Lowson visited the church, in Green Lane, seven hours after he was announced as successor to The Rt Rev Dr John Saxbee.

The bishop and his wife Susan enjoyed meeting Teenzone members and also the church’s befriending and Start A Fresh groups.

Bishop Lowson also led an evening prayer worship during the hour-long visit.

Operations manager at the church Mike Mills said it was an honour to have the new bishop at the church.

He said: “We are very excited that he was interested in the outreach programmes.

“It was very exciting and we are very pleased that we could welcome him.”

The Ven Lowson is the 72nd Bishop of Lincoln.

He hails from County Durham and was ordained in the 1970s.

The Bishop had worked in the Portsmouth and held the post of Director of Ministry for the Church of England since February 2006.
