A charity has been boosted to the tune of £1,146 thanks to the efforts of a couple who went the extra mile to help.

Mick and Carole Bell, of Fife Close, Stamford, decorated their home in an amazing festive lights display as they have done for more than 30 years.

Mick started with a single Christmas tree and it has grown so big that ahead of Christmas Day this year, it took him six days to put the display together.

But it was all worthwhile as it raised the cash for the Phoebe Research Fund.

Zoe Crowson, who started the charity, said: “I was simply amazed at how much was raised, when Mick and Carole presented the cheque I felt humbled knowing so many people are supporting my daughter Phoebe.

“I also think they are such a wonderfully warm family who made us so welcome when we visited them, people like Mick and Carole are what the true spirit of Christmas is all about.

“I also know how much enjoyment people have had going to Fife Close and it’s become somewhat of a tradition.”

Phoebe suffers from Recessive Dystrophic Epidermolysis Bullosa, which is a life limiting skin disease causing blistering of skin from a slight touch.

Six-year-old Phoebe was delighted when she got the chance to see the display, which included a fairy princess castle.
