A Stamford couple are looking forward to the day of their dreams after winning a wedding worth £25,000.

Jenny Collier was shocked and overwhelmed to get a call from wedding website UKbride on Valentine’s Day.

She and her husband-to-be Alex Marshall, of Kesteven Road, Stamford, are planning to tie the knot in May 2018.

They had already booked Stibbington Church and The Bull Hotel in Peterborough, for their wedding and reception, but were scrimping and saving to pay for the rest of the wedding.

Now Jenny, who works as a childminder, said: “I just couldn’t believe it when I got the call.

“I normally don’t answer calls from numbers I don’t recognise but I was at home sick and I just thought why not? I’m really glad I answered the phone, it was an absolutely amazing call.

“We’ve not got a big budget and we’ve really been tightening our belts to save for it so it is such a huge weight off our shoulders and now we can concentrate on planning an amazing day.”

Alex, a recruitment manager, was at work when she got the call, but she rang him straight after to tell him.

The couple normally just exchange cards on Valentine’s Day with Jenny saying: “We don’t make a big deal of it because we say ‘I love you’ every day”.

But last week was different and Alex brought home a huge bouquet of flowers and a bottle of champagne to celebrate.

The couple have two children Felicity, who is three, and 14-year-old Oliver and Jenny shared the happy news with Oliver while she was still on the phone to UKbrides sales director Emily Brown.

Jenny, 34, added: “We have told all family and friends and most didn’t believe me until they saw the video of when I received the call. Both our mums were in tears.

“It’s only just starting to sink in now.”

Everyone who registers on the UKbride website is entered to win the wedding and Jenny was one of 650,000 members registered.

During the five-minute call with Emily, Jenny says: “I’ve never won anything in my life. Thank you so so much.”

The prize package includes a honeymoon courtesy of Kuoni, Jenny’s wedding dress and bridesmaid dresses from Berketex Bride, photography, videography from Dream a Theme, wedding cake from Sophisticake, wedding flowers from L’Homme de Fleurs and suit hire from Formally Yours.

The couple have also won a spa break from spabreaks.com, entertainment from One Fun Band, catering from Soho Pizza, Photobooth courtesy of Cheesy Smiles, confetti from Shropshire Petals and even sparklers from sparklers.co.uk

Jenny has already started getting calls from the companies to organise everything and says she’s looking forward to going dress shopping.

But Jenny and Alex are still pondering their honeymoon destination with Kuoni putting together a range of options.

“We’re both really cultural so I think we’re swaying towards Thailand at the moment. We’ve been talking about it constantly since we got the call,” Jenny said.

The couple met through a mutual friend and as Jenny was getting ready for a charity gala ball, Alex surprised her by getting down on one knee last September. The couple have been busy saving for their big day since and Jenny turned to the UKbride website to find dress shops.

The whole UKbride team was on the line to cheer as the announcement was made, with Emily saying afterwards: “It’s a really exciting call to make.”
