Stamford Fairtrade Town Group has organised a number of events to raise awareness yet again of the importance of fair trade to the many producers in the world unable to earn a decent living.

Members will be manning a market stall in the town centre on Friday Feselling Fairtrade items, distributing leaflets and talking through the issues with passers-y.

Fifty people will be attending a “Dine with a Difference” event on February 27 at New College Stamford.

Students will produce a five-course gourmet dining experience using local and Fairtrade produce and the event is now a sell-out.

Group members have talked previously with the students about the difference it makes to many lives when they are paid a fair price for their labours.

On Thursday, March 6, at 7pm at Stamford Arts Centre refreshments will be available prior to a talk at 7.30pm by Alan and Eleanor Rayden, who went to Vietnam on a Fairtrade “Meet the Producers” tour.

They will give an illustrated talk about their experiences. Admission is free.

Planning is already under way for this year’s One World Week event. Anyone wishing to learn more about, or be interested in joining the Fairtrade Group, can get more information at
