A local gift shop has won the coveted Independent Gift Retailer of the Year award in East Anglia for the second time in four years.

Will and Amanda Oscroft, owners of Love It in St Johns Street Stamford and a second branch in Bury St Edmunds, said they were overwhelmed by the announcement made on May 17.

The awards form part of The Greats Gift Retailer Awards run by London-based Max Publishing.

“In 2013 we won Card Shop of the Year and then in 2015 were named Gift Retailer of the Year,” said Will.

“We finished in the runners up spot last year and then were announced the winners again this year which was just fantastic.”

He said they were up against similar shops from all over East Anglia.

“The judges look at issues like customer service, layout of the shop, variety of gifts and friendliness,” said Will.

“I think one of our strong points is that we try to pack as much as we can into our shops and try to display it in the best manner possible.”

He said they sold jewellery, bags, T-shirts, mugs and handmade cards for all occasions.

“We opened the Bury St Edmunds shop first and followed that with the Stamford store in 1999,” said Will.

“We have a great variety of gifts and try to get as much as possible into the shops.”

Now in their 16th year, the The Greats Awards are aimed at the UK’s gift and home industry sectors.

They recognise the top independent and multiple gift retailers regionally and nationally, but also 'one off' niche retailers and garden centres, as well as outstanding retail employees.
