Stamford Hospital nurse set for Buckingham Palace Garden Party to celebrate centenary of Royal College of Nursing
One honoured staff nurse from Stamford Hospital will be celebrating the centenary of the Royal College of Nursing by attending the Royal Garden Party at Buckingham Palace next week.
The event is hosted by the Queen as a way of recognising outstanding public service.
Kay Bannister has been a nurse for more than 30 years and an Royal College of Nursing representative for the last three years.
During her career, she has worked in many hospitals around the UK and covered many specialities such as orthopaedic, adult medicine, adolescent oncology and now in the Greenwood surgery unit.
Kay said: “I am absolutely thrilled to be invited to the Royal Garden Party on behalf of the RCN.
“I love being a nurse and knowing that every action of care you give makes a difference to your patients’ lives is so rewarding.
“I became a representative for the RCN through my love of nursing. The role has given me a valuable insight into the NHS and I am able to appreciate the bigger picture of the organisation.”
Nursing staff from the hospital also joined in the celebration of International Nurses Day yesterday. The annual event takes place on the anniversary of Florence Nightingale’s birth.
