Evergreen events manager Rosie Maclennan with winner of the Queen for a Day competition Morag Roberts

Morag Roberts was on a break from her job as a nurse at Stamford Hospital when events manager for Evergreen Rosie Maclennan dropped by on Tuesday to tell her she’d won the prize.

Morag was nominated by her friend and colleague Helen Conte, who works as a receptionist at the hospital in Ryhall Road.

She said she nominated Morag because “she always has a smile on her face” and “goes the extra mile”.

Helen was also impressed that Morag, at the age of 72, ran her first marathon in London this year, raising more than £3,300 for the British Red Cross in the process.

As part of her prize, Morag will be pampered before leading a procession to a tea dance being hosted by Evergreen for more than 100 of its members at Borderville Centre. The event takes place on Saturday, June 11, to coincide with the celebrations for Her Majesty’s 90th birthday.

Morag’s package of prizes is worth more than £400 includes:

l Chauffeur driven Rolls Royce provided by Hugh Illingsworth from Classic Rolls and Bentley Hire to the event.

l Outfit by Trish Ferrier of Tresher’s, Stamford Walk

l Hair by Lewin Auciello of the Cutting Company in Ironmonger Street

l Nails by Maria Harvey, Bliss Beauty, Upstairs at the Cutting Company

l Afternoon treat at The Crown Hotel in All Saints’ Place.

Morag was overwhelmed to learn she’d won.

She said: “I just can’t believe it, I didn’t know I’d been nominated let alone have won a prize!

“I’m absolutely gobsmacked but I’m also very honoured and touched.”

Rosie said she was delighted with the response to the competition, which was launched in the Mercury and invited nominations for worthy ladies who had made a difference.

She said: “I am so delighted for Morag. I don’t think she could believe it!

“Morag is so deserving of this prize and clearly adored by everyone she works with and for. She is just such a wonderful lady.”

Rosie also thanked the supporters, who had generously donated prizes.

During the tea dance, guests will be served a delicious afternoon and enjoy music. It promises to be a fantastic event to celebrate the Queen’s milestone occasion.
