A hospital board has promised that all the money made from new parking charges will make things better for patients.

People will have to pay to park at Stamford Hospital from summer 2016.

The board of directors of the Peterborough and Stamford Hospitals Trust met on December 22 to discuss the issue, and pledged that money raised by the introduction of parking charges would be put towards improving the car park for the benefit of all users.

The board did not set a specific charge for patient and visitor parking at that meeting, but agreed that it would mirror the local authority charging policy for car parks elsewhere in the town.

Chief executive Stephen Graves said: “The feedback we received from members of the public and trust staff was really helpful.

“One key area brought to light was the need for more disabled bays and we also received requests to introduce parent and child spaces and better cycle facilities.

“We want to be clear about where the income raised from car parking will be spent. Initially, we will use it to make improvements to the car parking and cycle facilities at Stamford Hospital.”
