Stamford MP Nick Boles in Trump jibe over president's hair and marriages
Nick Boles has sparked uproar with an attack on Donald Trump's hair and marriages.
The Grantham and Stamford MP took to social media in response to the US president's interview with the Sun newspaper.
In the newspaper interview, which made global headlines, the three-times married president said he had advised Prime Minister Theresa May on how to handle the Brexit negotiations.
He told the paper: “I would have done it much differently. I actually told Theresa May how to do it but she didn’t agree, she didn’t listen to me."
Accepting Mrs May was free to do it differently, President Trump added: “The deal she is striking is a much different deal than the one the people voted on. It was not the deal that was in the referendum."
In response, Mr Boles defended the Prime Minister.
He tweeted on Friday: "The President of the United States must always be welcome in Britain. But I would no more take advice from Donald Trump on negotiating Brexit than I would on staying married or choosing a good hair dye."
He said the day before: "So Donald Trump is in favour of a hard Brexit that does as much damage as possible to the economic and security partnership between the UK and our European allies. Now I am feeling a lot more confident about my decision to back the Prime Minister's plan."
However, his comments on Mr Trump's hair and marriages were not well received, with the MP receiving almost 200 largely critical comments, though a similar number of 'likes.'
