The competition subject for the May meeting of the Stamford Photographic Society was ‘Two Wheels Or More’.

There were many photos of bicycles and cars, with a few members thinking morelaterally to shopping trolleys and prayer wheels.

Winner of both the individual and group competitions was David Townshend withmonochrome images of bicycles in Cambridge and Amsterdam that emphasised their graphic qualities. Julie Cole’s close-up shot of Triking sports cars came second, with bicycles featuring in Veronica Watson and Sue Haynes’ images in third and fourth places.

In the group competition, third placed Sue West intrigued members with her recreation of sepia images of the movie posters for the 2004 film The Motorcycle Diaries.

The competition was followed by a presentation by David Townshend on the critical analysis of images when judging internal competitions. Members found the discussion on applying the guidance to the evening’s entries particularly useful.

The next meeting will be on Thursday, June 16, at 8pm, when members will compete for the Best Landscape Cup.
