A music student has written the score for the 10-piece band which will entertain at his university’s graduation ceremonies.

Simon Oliver, whose parents Shaun and Lesley live in Cliff Crescent, Stamford, is studying for an MA in composition at Salford University where he gained a first class honours degree last year. An audience of 6,000 will be at each of four ceremonies at the Lowry Centre on Salford Quays.

Simon, 23, went to the Bluecoat and Queen Eleanor Schools and Peterborough Regional College. He played for Empingham Mission Band and the Yarwell & Nassington Band before joining Stamford Brass, which plays a few of his arrangements. His father also plays with Stamford Brass.
