Stamford Striders beginners' course will start in April
A course that has helped hundreds of people to get into running will start next month.
The Stamford Striders beginners’ course attracted more than 80 participants last spring. It is designed for those keen to take up the sport, or get back into it after a break.
This year the free 10-week course starts on April 21. Running coach Clare Morley will be leading the hour-long sessions.
She said: “We’ve been running the beginners’ course each year for a decade, and over that time a huge number of people have taken part and improved their fitness as well as making new friends.”
Many go on to run races, including marathons and half marathons.
“Anyone thinking of coming along has nothing to fear,” added Clare.
“The point of the course is to start slowly and build up to being able to run for about 45 minutes to an hour.
“People don’t need to bring anything special - just comfortable trainers and a drink.
“It’s a great opportunity, and it’s free, so we’re encouraging people to get off the sofa, grab a friend and come along.”
During the sessions, runners will be given advice on nutrition, how to keep running, safety, weightloss and choosing the right shoes.
More information on the course is available on the ‘beginners’ page of the Stamford Striders website.
The beginners’ course sessions start and finish at Borderville Sports Centre in Ryhall Road, Stamford, on Tuesdays from April 21.
Those coming along should arrive at about 6.50pm.
