A Guide from Stamford has been specially selected from over 75 Girl Guides to gain a place at an international summer camp in the States.

Charlotte Harris, aged 14, has been a member of the 4th Stamford Christ Church Guide Company for the past 10 years and recently took part in an international selection process to gain an exclusive place on a Girl Guiding International Jamboree.

Over the weekend Charlotte took part in a number of challenges and activities to win one of the 12 places on offer.

Charlotte impressed the judges and was offered one of the few places at the International Camp in San Francisco.

She will spend two weeks in San Francisco in July, the first week on a camping trip where she will take part in lots of activities and the second week she will live the ‘American Dream’ and tour San Francisco.

Charlotte, who is a pupil at Bourne Grammar School, now has to raise a total of £2,000 to cover the cost of the trip and is busy organising quiz nights, beetle drives, bag packs and coffee mornings.

Charlotte said: “I’m very excited, this will be my first ever time in America. I didn’t think I’d get chosen, there was so many Guides that applied.

“I’m really looking forward to the experience and meeting Guides from all around the world, along with representing the UK.”

To kick off the fundraising Charlotte will be taking on a sponsored fortnight without gadgets from March 1 to March 14. Her mum has also organised a cake sale and coffee morning at their house.
