Deepings MP Sir John Hayes backs Suella Braverman as next Tory party leader and Prime Minister role
Suella Braverman has received the backing of a local MP in the race to become next Prime Minister.
Tory MPs are gearing up for the first round of votes in the contest to choose a replacement for Boris Johnson.
Sir John Hayes, South Holland and the Deepings MP says he will support 42-year-old Mrs Braverman, who was on the eight-strong list of contenders revealed last night.
Sir John said: "As attorney general she has experience across government and has done a really good job on advising on legal matters - and I know she has got really important views on judge-made law and tackling problems in the judicial system and scrapping problems with courts taking power away from elected people."
He said she is a Brexiteer and feels it important to have a leader to take that agenda forward.
Sir John added: "I share her views on migration. We have to crack down on illegal migration and the scale of legal migration."
He also said she will be tough on law and order.
The other contenders are Rishi Sunak, Jeremy Hunt, Liz Truss, Nadhim Zahawi, Kemi Badenoch, Tom Tugendhat and Penny Mordaunt.
